I have been a full time painter for many years now and enjoy the freedom to explore all types of media and subjects. My favourite medium is watercolour, its immediacy and transparency is hard to beat I never tire of watching colours merge and mingle on the paper before me. I also work in pastel, acrylic and pen and wash. I am currently using line and wash and INKTENSE colour pencils for quick en plein air sketching. Landscapes are my first love but I am at home painting anything from portraits to steam locomotives. |

I travel extensively both home and abroad doing demonstrations and workshops to Art Clubs and Societies. I authored many books, "Painting Mood and Atmosphere in Watercolour", and "Successful and Creative Washes", just to name a couple and was winner of the SAA Artist of the year award. After my successful exhibition at Brockworth Court (UK), a permanent exhibition of my paintings will be shown at the new arts centre early 2008.

When using a palette of vibrant and transparent colours, Barry likes to explore the effects of sunlight, shadows, mist and stormy skies on a range of subjects. The secrets and delights of capturing mood and atmosphere in early morning landscapes, inspiring seascapes, quiet woodlands, and on rural buildings are often seen in his works. When traveling abroad, he works in a variety of mediums in a style best described as "loose and lively", without the loss of detail whether the subject is a derelict cottage or crashing seas. A regular contributor to the ARTIST magazine (UK), Barry believes that painting should be fun and he often can be found amusing his students with his mandolin! |
